Objective One Overview

Between 2000 and 2006 the Objective One Programme encouraged investment to help grow and reshape the economy of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Objective One Legacy Book

In July 2008 the Objective One Partnership produced a book that took a look back at the remarkable eight years of the Objective One Programme. The Legacy book takes a trip through some of the many achievements of the Objective One Programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Corporate Memories

So many of the investments made through the Objective One Programme are very interesting in their own right, but equally fascinating are the stories behind them! We have captured a number of these through the experiences of some of the individuals involved.

Communicating Structural Funds

In 2008 the European Academy for Taxes, Economics and Law published two articles, written by the Partnership Office, on the 2000-2006 Objective One Programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly experiences of communicating structural funds:

There is so much more to successful communication than issuing media releases (page 8)

Cornwall now looks to the future with a confidence that is the envy of others

On 1 February 2008, Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Partnership Office, contributed a piece to the Western Morning News regarding the legacy of the Objective One Programme and where we go from here.

Royal Cornwall Show

At the 2006 Royal Cornwall Show the Objective One Partnership celebrated many of the Programme's successful investments in a bespoke marquee. This exhibition was visited by many thousands of people at the Show as well as a number of dignitaries including the Lord Mayor of London, Lord Rooker (Minister of State - Sustainable Farming, Food and Animal Welfare) and the Ambassador of Hungary.

Objective One Qualitative Evaluation

In 2008 the Objective One Partnership commissioned a qualitative evaluation of the Programme that would set the scene for the far more quantitative ‘ex post’ evaluation required by the European Regulations.

The opportunity provided by the cusp between Objective One (2000 to 2006) and Convergence (2007 to 2013) was taken to gauge progress in the economic transformation of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in what was recognised in the late 1990s as a 30 year journey.

The aim of the study was to look at perceptions about the changes in business confidence to date, whether Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly was a more enterprising place and the lessons for future public sector economic regeneration programmes.

The outcomes of the work reveal how much has been achieved and also, as expected, how much remains to be done; although brand recognition for Objective One was high it was not the answer for everything!
