Learning centre refurbishment starts

Building work on the 200,000 Roche Family Learning Centre, which involves the conversion of two redundant classrooms into community-based learning and childcare facilities at the heart of the community, has started.

The project has been developed by the Roche Learning Village Partnership with the support of Objective One funding, which was secured by the Restormel Regeneration Partnership.

Dr Stan Dennison, Secretary of the Roche Learning Village Partnership (RLVP), which developed the project, said he was delighted:"It will combine a state of the art IT suite and adult training room with a high quality early years education and childcare centre. In order to maximise the value of the centre for working parents and parents in training, the plan is to eventually open from 8.00 in the morning to 5.30 in the evening by bringing together Roche pre-school playgroup and wraparound childcare. We are deeply grateful to Christine Bainbridge and to all at RRP for getting us to this stage."

Christine Bainbridge, Programme Manager at RRP, said:"We are delighted to be involved in this exciting project it shows what community groups can come up with that will make a real difference to their surroundings and quality of life."

The refurbishment is due to be completed by the end of August.
