Good news as ice cream production increases!
Ice cream production on a Cornish farm is set to rise ready for the summer - thanks to the Objective One programme.
Helped by a grant of £58,000, Callestick Farm is about to increase its production capacity by 20 % after building a new cold store at its site near Truro.
The expansion has also enabled the family firm to take on two new members of staff already, one based on the farm and one in ice cream manufacture/delivery.
Increased production capacity means Callestick will be able to sell its wares further afield. To this end the firm recently attended a trade show in Birmingham and the Taste Of The West show at Exeter to help it establish contracts with national wholesalers.
Angela Parker from Callestick said they would also be trading at the Royal Cornwall Show in June and at a show in Portsmouth in August.
She added: “In addition, we will be exhibiting at the Speciality Fine Food Fair in London this September – that will be an ideal venue to promote the retail range and win new contracts from independent retailers and delicatessen.”
Mrs Parker added: “The grant from Objective One has enabled us to invest in the farm in a way that should really help Callestick thrive and expand – and further spread the reputation of Cornish produce.
“The business will help support the rest of the farm and give the whole operation a long-term future – both for us and the people who work for us.”
In addition to the new facilities already completed, Callestick will also be converting their former cold store into a new packaging building and, at a later date, hope to establish the business as a tourist attraction by adding a viewing gallery to the production area and enlarging the shop /ice cream parlour.
