Torpoint Enterprise Court gears up for opening

Torpoint Enterprise Court is gearing up for its opening with the appointment of business support adviser Karon Shergold.

The £834,099 project will provide 28 managed workspace units and a conference facility at Marine Drive, Torpoint and is expected to create 40 local jobs.

Karon, 34, was previously the assistant commercial manager of the Tamar Bridge widening and strengthening project. She will be responsible for managing the Enterprise Court and providing advice to businesses using the centre.

Karon said: “There is a strong demand for premises for small businesses and start up businesses in Torpoint, and Enterprise Court is the perfect solution. Although the centre is still under construction, we are already taking bookings for workspaces.

“The office accommodation will be let under licence on an easy-in and easy-out basis to encourage new businesses that may not want to make a long term commitment in the first instance. On site business support and administration are included in the package, and businesses that want to access the internet can make use of our high speed ISDN2e connections.

“There will also be two conference rooms with stunning views of the Tamar, which will allow us to cater for conferences, meetings and training sessions of up to 60 people.”

Torpoint was the first town in Cornwall to receive Objective One funding for this type of project, thanks to a unique partnership bid by Torpoint Town Council and Caradon District Council. Caradon has been involved in the design and construction of the Enterprise Court, while Torpoint Town Council will manage the finished workspace units and conference centre. Funding has been provided by an Objective One European Regional Development Fund grant of nearly £333,639 with Caradon providing match funding.

Enterprise Court’s business units will be open from June 2002 and range from 9.5m2 to 15m2 in size. The workspaces include sustainable features such as high energy efficiency, green electricity and grey water recycling, which allows toilets to be flushed with rainwater.
