2008 ad – the future is University College Falmouth

The experience and expertise of more than 60 staff from University College Falmouth's Woodlane and Tremough Campuses will be combined in a unique exhibition spanning all three disciplines of Art, Design and Media at The Poly in Falmouth from Monday 25 February until Saturday 1 March.

'2008 ad' will feature individual work which has been either recently made or specifically created for the exhibition. The show will be an eclectic mix of work showcasing a different aspect of the College – a glimpse into the work of the staff today who inspire and tutor the accomplished students of tomorrow.

The exhibition is being led by the College's Directors, Jeff Hellyer, Director of Art; John Miller, Director of Design; and Paul Inman, Director of Media. "The innovative works in the exhibition will incorporate sculpture, painting, new electronic and interactive forms, contemporary crafts, industrial design, photography, animation, creative writing, fashion and textiles," explains Jeff. "This exhibition provides a great opportunity for the students and general public to see the breadth of practice and creativity that informs much of the studio teaching at UniversityCollegeFalmouth."

Falmouth has a justifiable reputation as one of the best specialist arts colleges in the UK where the staff encourage students to use their individual creativity to express themselves, to solve problems and to understand what happens when their ideas are transformed into imagery and objects; providing learning and teaching experiences that help graduates excel in their chosen specialism.

Art courses at Falmouth have already produced rising stars such as Christopher Crump (illustrator of bestselling book, The Valley of Secrets), Amy Albright who won the Midas Award 2007, and Emily Lockren and Catherine Howell who won the nationwide Mercury Prize Art Competition.

Design at Falmouth has an enviable reputation for producing the industry stars of the future and combines live project briefs; opportunities for work to be showcased nationally and internationally; exceptional facilities, and high-level professional expertise to ensure that graduates hit the ground running in the fast-paced design industry. Design at Falmouth also attracts world-class speakers, such as Ed Barber, Jay Osgerby and Tomoko Azumi.

Media at Falmouth enables students to experience first-hand the variety of demanding roles this discipline encompasses. A specially designed Media Centre equipped with cutting-edge digital recording and editing technology helps Falmouth students win leading competitions such as Royal Television Society Awards as well as contracts with publishing houses before they even graduate. University College Falmouth is also part of the Cornwall Skillset Media Academy which has been established as a centre of excellence in the design and delivery of practice-based media education and training.

University College Falmouth is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education. The CUC is funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One), the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council.

UniversityCollegeFalmouth is a partner of the CUC.
