Vineyard visit for Economic Forum executive

Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Economic ForumMembers of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Economic Forum Executive paid a visit to St Martin's Vineyard and Winery, on the Isles of Scilly last week (Tuesday April 29th).

The visit followed the Executive Group meeting in The Old Wesleyan Chapel, on St Mary's. Those who had the tour were Thelma Sorensen, Lucy Harris, Richard Fish, David Pattison, David Brewer, Michelle O'Brien, Ian Tunbridge, Alistair MacNichol, Philip Hygate, Jenny Milligan and Chris Redding.

Val and Graham Thomas, who run St Martins Vineyard and Winery, talked the group through their produce. The business received Objective One EAGGF (European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund) investment via Business Link. The investment was used to build and fit out the business's shop.

Thelma Sorensen, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Economic Forum chair, said: "We try to ensure an annual meeting in the Isles of Scilly to keep abreast of business progress there as well as in Cornwall. This trip was both informative and enjoyable. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Val and Graham on what they have achieved."

Editor's notes:

What is the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Economic Forum? - The economic development partnership for Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, is recognised and funded by the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) as its Strategic Economic Partnership (SEP), and by Cornwall County Council as its economic development partnership. Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Economic Forum has also been accepted as the economic arm of the Cornwall wide Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) which creates the Community Strategy. The Economic Forum is charged with delivering and monitoring the economic development priorities set out in the Economic Development Strategy for Cornwall. It exists to support, and more importantly influence and guide, the County Council and the South West RDA and other regional and sub-regional bodies, in their actions and initiatives so that the maximum benefit may be gained for the sustainable prosperity for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The Forum has recently revised the economic strategy for Cornwall 'Strategy and Action'. This strategy has actively informed the economic strategy for the EU Convergence Programmes.
