Studying has never been easier

This summer the MA 20th century Art & Design: Histories & Theories course at University College Falmouth has launched three new postgraduate bursaries for anyone thinking of applying to this flexible part-time course that explores the last 100 years of art and design.

This innovative course examines the relationship between art, culture and society; how this relationship has shaped art and culture over the last century and the role it will play in informing the next.  Through research, analysis, criticism and theory, you'll develop a critical awareness of contemporary culture as well as movements such as post-impressionism, modernism, pop art and postmodernism, in their wider social and historical contexts.

The bursaries will cover the first year's tuition fees. To be considered for a bursary you must have applied and been accepted for a place on this course, to start in Autumn 2008. There are no age restrictions and entry requirements are either a first degree, DIP AD, NDD or teaching certificate or you may also apply if you have an equivalent professional qualification, suitable prior learning or experience.

As art and design play an increasingly important role in our everyday lives, completing a postgraduate degree in 20th century Art and Design will benefit those who are interested in pursuing the subject through teaching and research, or via a career in art museums, arts journalism, arts administration or related fields.

"Financial restrictions have often been a barrier to postgraduate study," said Fiona Hackney, Course Leader of MA 20th Century Art & Design: Histories & Theories. She continued: "These new bursaries are aimed to benefit anyone who applies to the course and requires some financial help; the bursaries are competitively awarded from the College to ensure no-one is excluded from achieving their life-long goals."

If this exciting course has sparked a desire to fast-track upgrading your career or find a new path, then these three new bursaries could enable you to turn your dreams into reality.

In April 2008, University College Falmouth merged with Dartington College of Arts to create a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Choreography, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing.

The merger will pave the way for a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall in 2012, creating a Higher Education institution unique to the South West.

University College Falmouth is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One), the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council.
