Trevenson Moor garden centre

Trevenson Moor Garden centre at Tehidy is undergoing a major refurbishment, thanks to Objective One investment.

Since taking over the business in 1997, Chris and Lynne Stevenson have worked hard to upgrade the facilities. Their long term plan has always been to replace the elderly wooden green house, which is at the heart of the centre.

So they developed a business plan and then began the search for funding.

"A work colleague recommended the services of Exeter based Cornish Horticulture Enterprises to me," said Mr Stevenson. "They sent down a representative, Roger Whilding, who visited the site and helped with the application, which culminated in a successful Objective one application."

The project is being co-funded by DEFRA and the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund through Cornish Horticulture Enterprises, which is the delegated grant scheme for horticulture under Objective One for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Specialist suppliers Copley Greenhouses from Weston Super Mare arrived last week to demolish the old greenhouse and begin the work for the base for the new one.

The new structure, which is aluminium and galvanised steel, should be up and running within the next few weeks.

"In the meantime, it's business as usual," said Mrs Stevenson, who runs the greenhouse and garden centre – Mr Stevenson heads the paving and landscaping business.

"We've set up a temporary office, and apart from the temporary absence of a greenhouse, we are trading as normal."

The next stage in the improvement work at the garden centre is to develop access and parking.

In the meantime, the centre's eight staff are working hard to ensure as little inconvenience as possible to customers during the work.
