IT Project Helps Business To Expand
A family owned wholesaling business in Redruth is reaping the benefits of a £50,000 IT project that, with the help of Business Link's ICT Advisory Service, provided a state-of-the-art website, network upgrade and customer relationship management system.
SLS which employs 14, supplies more than 13,000 catering and hygiene products to 4,500 hoteliers, caterers and food producers across Cornwall. It operates from a purpose built warehouse, centrally located at Barncoose Industrial Estate.
SLS was founded in the 1970s by Dot and Reg Saunders, who were joined in 1982 by their daughter Claire Dougal, who is now managing director. "The project is proving to be a huge success for the business," said Claire. "The website generates new business and leads daily and has led to us getting new customers out of county while the network upgrade has improved performance and reliability and ensures that data is securely protected. The CRM software helps us to deal with customers more efficiently and speedily and is integrated with accounting and back office systems, bringing the benefits of modern IT technology to our field sales staff as well as allowing us to monitor customers' buying patterns."
Praising the efforts of Business Link Devon and Cornwall IT adviser Mike Robertson, Claire said: "He was instrumental in us receiving support from actnow without which a project of this scale would not have happened. Mike also played a key role in identifying capable and flexible website designers who could fit in with our requirements and in providing an overall review of the project to make sure that it was sensibly implemented."
The company also received Business Link support for designing a new catalogue, business planning and marketing as well as for being recognised as an Investor in People. "We've had tremendous and very worthwhile support from Business Link, which has directed us to appropriate specialists who have helped us to grow our business and develop our staff. I am looking forward to working with them in the near future on some new projects to take the business further," she added.
