HRH Prince Of Wales To Present Taste Of The West Food And Drink Awards

The prestigious Taste of the West Food and Drink Awards get a royal seal of approval when HRH The Prince of Wales presents the 2005 Awards to the very best food and drink producers and retail and hospitality establishments in the region at an awards ceremony hosted at Highgrove House on Friday 16th September 2005.

More than 70 guests and hopeful winners will attend the Taste of the West Awards Ceremony at Highgrove House, near Tetbury, Gloucestershire, to hear the Prince announce the seventeen award winners. The Prince of Wales is the patron of regional food and drink organisation Taste of the West.

Taste of the West Chief Executive John Sheaves says: "It is a great honour that the Prince of Wales will present the Taste of the West Food and Drink Awards this year. He well understands the importance of our region's food and drink industry, its vital link with our tourist industry and the prestige the Awards have among producers and trade buyers looking to source the very best food and drink in the South West. The ceremony will be a wonderful treat for everyone involved in the Awards and those who work hard to create, sell and promote the products that this region is so proud of."

HRH Prince of Wales will present eleven Best of Category winners and six overall winners including Champion Product, South West Restaurant of the Year, South West Dining Pub of the Year, South West Tea Room of the Year, South West Local Retail Outlet of the Year and South West Bed and Breakfast of the Year. His Royal Highness will also discuss his patronage of Taste of the West, the significance of the Awards scheme and the variety and quality of South West food and drink.

Rick Stein OBE, chef and restaurateur, is the 2005 Taste of the West Champion Product judge, choosing an overall winning product from the eleven Best of Category winning food and drink products. Rick Stein will be at the awards ceremony to discuss the products he judged, the winning Champion Product and to voice his well-known enthusiasm for local food and drink sourcing.

Now in its 12th year, the Taste of the West Food and Drink Awards, recognises the great achievements of food and drink producers, retailers dedicated to providing regional products for customers and the chefs and proprietors of hospitality establishments providing regional food and drink on their menus to locals and the region's tourists.

The six overall winners will receive a certificate and engraved plate made for the awards by Bristol Blue Glass. Guests will take a garden tour before the awards are presented at Highgrove House. The Awards will be followed by a lunch created exclusively from regional food and drink.
