Free Training For Potential Zed Developers

Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust (CSBT) is keen to hear from Cornwall based developers who may be interested to become approved Zero (fossil) Energy Developers. The Trust is offering a free training course to suitable project managers or foremen, on the ins and outs of sustainable design and construction as demonstrated by the award winning RURAL ZED house.

Designed by Bill Dunster's ZED Factory, Rural ZED won the ANSAS competition to find A Novel Sustainable Affordable Solution to Cornwall's housing problems. The prototype was built by 24 potential self builders last year in the redundant Holman's factory in Camborne. However the time has now come to develop the Holman's site and Rural ZED must be moved. It is hoped to move the building and re-erect it and complete it as a demonstrator in the open, as part of the proposed training.

CSBT has STAKES (Skills Training Across Key Emerging Sectors) funding from Objective One and The European Social Fund, an additional part of which is to train 27 renewable energy installers. CSBT's Paul Bright says: "There is still huge interest in the building and ZED Factory has developed their design further, thanks to constructive feedback from CSBT and our trainees. We also hope to use the building as a training module for renewable energy installers. We have found it difficult to provide safe and controllable conditions for this training until now. However Rural ZED will be the perfect framework as the design includes photo voltaic and micro wind electricity generation, solar hot water collection, wood pellet boiler and a passive heat recovery ventilation system amongst numerous other sustainable features."

Recent discussions between ZED Factory and an Electricity Company look like making these renewable energy options affordable to all purchasers.

Potential ZED developers should waste no time taking advantage of this free offer as the Rural ZED Partnership will be launching their product as a licensed kit build on 24th November and they expect a rush for approved builders. Interested companies can contact CSBT on 01726 68654 or paul@csbt.org.uk.

For further information please contact Paul Bright of the Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust on 01726 68654 or email: paul@csbt.org.uk.

The Objective One Programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has invested in STAKES through the European Social Fund (ESF).
