University College Falmouth's New Director of Marketing Wins Top Award

University College Falmouth's newly appointed director of marketing & student recruitment, Jeremy Whitaker, has won a top national award for his outstanding personal contribution to the development of community railways in Cornwall and Devon from the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP) at a national ceremony held in Norwich last Friday.

Whitaker joined the College at the beginning of September as director of marketing & student recruitment as part of the College's drive to strengthen its senior management team. A Chartered Marketer and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, he has worked in the West Country for the last seven years and was previously commercial director of Wessex Trains, based at their main headquarters in Exeter.

Over 300 guests from the railway industry, local government and the community sector attended the first-ever national Community Rail Awards. There were 13 categories, over 200 entries and Whitaker's award for Outstanding Railway Staff Contribution was sponsored by the Rail Passengers Council.

This award recognised Whitaker's contribution to a number of initiatives including the establishment of line identities for the branch lines of Devon and Cornwall; 'The Great Scenic Railways of Devon and Cornwall' marketing campaign; the launch of the carnet ticket on the Tamar Valley line; the creation of Rail Ale Trails; and the relaunch of the St Ives Bay line, with a major public art installation produced in conjunction with local artists David Kemp and Celia Gregory and Cornwall Arts Marketing.
