New Caradon Enterprise annexe opens for business

The £729,195 Caradon Enterprise annexe at Liskeard Business Park opens for business with an official launch on Friday 24 January.

The latest phase of development at the business park provides another 11 industrial units and nine offices. It is expected to create 31 permanent jobs and safeguard four more for small and start up enterprises in South East Cornwall.

Funding for Liskeard Business Park's third phase has been provided by an Objective One European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grant of £291,678 plus £202,346 from the Cornwall Developing in Partnership SRB2 Programme and £235,171 from Caradon District Council.

Offices and workshops have already been snapped up by local entrepreneurs, including:

Celia Duncan Artworks – a well-known local artist providing original paintings, prints and cards
The Bosun's Store and Teddy Bear Workshop – producers of whole sale teddy bears, bespoke clothing and corporate embroidery
Usfor Limited – software developers and digital internet printing services
Design 7 – a furniture restoration and joinery workshop dealing with art and craft design, wood sculptures and glass painting
Paper Fun and Bytes Back – a company manufacturing educational arts and crafts supplies and also undertaking computer repairs and training
The Dolls House Builder and Cornish Toy Craft – maker of dolls houses and wooden toys
Tri-8 Colours – commercial photographers and photographic printing

Councillor Kath Pascoe, Caradon's Cabinet member with the supporting the rural community and economy portfolio, said: "Caradon actively promotes and encourages businesses to set up in South East Cornwall. In just 12 years we have built 126 workshops and offices to provide premises that new and expanding businesses can afford.

"We also offer a complete and free business advice service for enterprises of all sizes and have more than 100 different fact sheets on topics such as business plans, credit management and starting up your own business."

The new industrial units range from 37sqm to 88sqm, and the offices sizes are between 10.3sqm and 15.6sqm. Liskeard Business Park has another 16 workshop units and 11 offices in its Caradon Enterprise Centre from two previous phases of development. There are also six plots of serviced land at the business park. The new units and offices are let on an 'easy in easy out' 'basis and all have ISDN telephone lines.

In total, almost £2.1 million has now been invested in Liskeard Business Park to help local businesses set up or expand. Around £837,500 has been funded by European Union grants, £287,000 has come from national government and £974,000 has been provided by Caradon District Council.

Caradon District Council currently provides 126 workshops and offices in South East Cornwall, and another 8 will be completed at Millbrook by the end of the month.
