Something To Suit All Tastes

Chef's delight – special festival menus are being prepared by the many pubs and restaurants taking part in Taste South East Cornwall, including Nick Barclay of the Barclay House Hotel and Restaurant, pictured here at the recent Cornwall Food and Drink Festival

Fish market visits, coastal walks, river cruises and gourmet meals. A delicious menu of activities has been devised for the Taste South East Cornwall initiative which runs 11 November to 11 December.

The events programme has been developing over the last couple of months and now boasts an exciting mix of foodie outings and activities for every day of the month long gastro-extravaganza. According to organisers, it's a must for anyone interested in great food and how it gets to the table.

Highlights of the first week alone include a coastal walk on the Rame Peninsula, a visit to the award winning apple juice producer Cornish Orchards, an evening cruise on the Looe River and an early morning visit to Looe Fish Market to name but a few. Many of the activities and outings are to be followed by gourmet meals at some of the area's leading restaurants and pubs, where special festival menus featuring local produce will be served. A full events list is posted at

"So much planning and effort has gone into this event and it's going to be great," says Richard McGeown of Couch's Restaurant in Polperro, one of the main organisers of the initiative. "We're all astonished at the level of interest and enthusiasm there is for Taste South East Cornwall and it hasn't even started yet. This is a glorious area with great people and an amazing food heritage. The events list promises something for everyone and will hopefully inspire both locals and visitors to experience more of South East Cornwall's food and cuisine."

A personal 'Mystery Tour' with celebrity chef Nick Barclay of the Barclay House Restaurant features in week one of Taste South East Cornwall, when he will guide people around the area's foodie hotspots in terms of ingredients, producers and landscapes. A selection of the local dairy, fish and meat featured in Nick's Mystery Tour will then be served up in a special eight course menu by Richard McGeown at Couch's Restaurant in Polperro. "Lots of people are getting together with other businesses to make their events even more fun and exciting," says Nick Barclay. "The great thing is that this has all grown out of a belief that the area has so much to offer and is worth shouting about. It's not down to any individuals, it's a real community effort."

The Taste South East Cornwall initiative is the brainchild of local restaurateurs, food producers and businesses who have come together to celebrate the distinctive food and cuisine of Looe and South East Cornwall and put the area on the map as a fine dining destination.
