Celebrations For Graduates At Truro College

Truro College held its annual Higher Education Graduation Awards Ceremony at Truro Cathedral. Over 400 students graduated this year which reflected the hard work and determination of all higher education students and the dedication of staff at Truro College.

The very Reverend Christopher Hardwick, dean of Truro Cathedral welcomed everyone to the event and the proceedings were opened by Ellen Winser, chairman of the governors at Truro College.

The guest speaker at the event was Dr Ian Tunbridge, dean of faculty of the University Partner Colleges (UPC) at University of Plymouth. He spoke about Truro College's success as a tertiary college and of the College's effectiveness in providing university level education in Cornwall. He referred to the new building construction of the Fal and Lyhner Buildings which will extend provision for the growing numbers of higher education students and provide a focal point for existing university level students, as part of the commitment to the CUC (Combined Universities in Cornwall) phase 2 project.

Dr Tunbridge presented students with awards of various levels in twenty two subjects including teaching qualifications. Students came from far and wide to attend the event and re-unite with their peers. The University of Plymouth present a prize each year to an outstanding student at each partner college and this year, Dr Tunbridge presented the award to Louise Bates, who also received a Principal's commendation.

Adrian Mitchell from Truro, who received a Certificate in Education, was awarded the Education Cup for his outstanding achievements.

After the awards, students had the opportunity to catch up with friends and their tutors, while enjoying a buffet and refreshments with guests.
