Art Exhibition And Auction Goes Live On The Web

Cape Cornwall by Kurt Jackson (Courtesy of Lemon Street Gallery)The Friends of the Royal Cornwall Hospital have launched an exciting website to promote their anniversary exhibition and auction entitled, 'Cornish Contemporary Art'.

With the aim of raising £60,000 to mark 60 years, during this, their diamond anniversary year, the Friends are anticipating their exhibition and auction of works of some of Cornwall's most renowned artists and top galleries will make major contribution to the challenge they have set themselves.

The website previews many of the works that will be on display in the Knowledge Spa at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro from 7th to 25th November and includes famous names such as Sir Terry Frost, Kurt Jackson and John Miller.

The auction on Saturday 26th November is set to be an exciting event and is likely to attract attention from far afield. Provision is being made for telephone bidding and well-known local auctioneer David Lay will be putting the lots under the hammer. The whole event has been sponsored by Cornwall-based CAD Architects Ltd.

Chair of the Friends, Helen Hough, said: "Over the last 10 years the Friends have raised over £1 million towards hospital equipment and provided many of the extras that make the difference to the comfort of patients, their relatives and the hospital's staff. £60,000 in one year is a huge sum for us but we are really determined, as the prospect of providing a CT head scanner for the A&E department is a great incentive and will benefit so many people."

The Friends have received tremendous support from local galleries and artists who have agreed a minimum price for their works, with the proceeds of bids received over and above the reserve going directly to the Friends.

The exhibition runs at the Knowledge Spa from 7th to 25th November and will be open to view between 9 am and 4 pm Monday to Friday. The auction takes place on the afternoon of Saturday 26th November at 2.30 pm. To find out more, visit or phone Helen Hough on 01872 222621.

For further information please contact the press and public relations office of Royal Cornwall Hospital on 01872 252934 during office hours.

The Objective One Programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has invested in the Knowledge Spa through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
